ANGEL QUILTERS:

Susan Brack........................................................................853-2125 Our primary mission is to combine the gift of a quilt with the gift of prayer. Quilts are made and distributed to comfort people in time of need or to honor people for something they are doing or have done. All quilts are pieced and quilted with love and prayers. Quilts are also made for charitable causes, and members sometimes work on individual projects. No sewing experience is necessary. There are plenty of non-sewing tasks that are needed for each quilt, or we will teach you to sew. Please come join us on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

This ministry has supported men and women struggling in their career search for the past 21 years, meeting every Wed. morning at Church of The Holy Spirit in East Memphis from 6:30 to 8:30 am….. Church of The Holy Spirit is a central location for the 35 to 50 participants coming from Memphis and surrounding townships.
This ministry starts each week with a discussion of one important aspect of a job search, whether it be emotional support, resume format, networking technique, actions to emphasize and avoid, interview preparation, financial planning when between jobs, the importance of having a spiritual focus etc. This is followed by personal introductions from each participant so that the group knows each member’s career goals and can contact them later on if they hear of an appropriate opportunity. A common theme throughout is providing support and encouragement to those present.

PROJECT OUTREACH:

Delana Lynch...................................................................861-6358
In 1978, Bishop Dozier of Memphis asked the Franciscan Sisters of Rochester, Minnesota to set up the first health care facility in Fayette County, TN.  These are the same Franciscans who earlier founded the Mayo Clinic.  In the late 1970’s Fayette County held the distinction of being the third poorest county in the United States and no health care.  Sister Elaine Wicks made the journey to Tennessee and spent her life caring for the people of Fayette County through her Project Outreach. The Project started by Sister Elaine now cares for over 1000 below poverty residents each year and touches thousands more through local school and church projects.  Twice a month the Project provides supplemental groceries to 30-50 families in the County, and school supplies are provided to another 450 children each year. At Incarnation Church non-perishable food staples cleaning supplies and toiletries, are collected each month for the poor of Fayette County. School supplies are collected in July. Donations are accepted in the Fellowship Hall under the bulletin board. Donations are picked up after the last Mass on the first weekend of the month. During Advent we also have an “Angel Tree.” Each angel identifies the person’s age, gender and an item they would like to have/need for Christmas. Parishioners are invited to take an angel and replace it with the unwrapped item. These are then delivered to the needy in time for Christmas.  Please contact Delana if you wish to become involved with this worthwhile community service provided by Incarnation.
