First Reconciliation

“In the sacrament of penance the faithful who confess their sins to a lawful minister are sorry for those sins and have a purpose of amendment, receive from God, through the absolution given by that minister, forgiveness of sins they have committed after baptism, and at the same time they are reconciled with the Church, which by sinning they wounded.” (Canon 959)
Preparation for this sacrament is given on various levels. Children are prepared in the second grade prior to receiving First Holy Communion.  Children are required to attend PRE classes or have been in a parochial school for the year prior to receiving the sacrament.
Adults and teens are given this preparation in the RCIA sessions. Instruction deals with a greater awareness of the need to be healed and forgiven and to let go of past hurts. The practical aspects of the sacrament are also discussed.

The parish provides instruction for this sacrament in the second year of Christian Formation.
